Jane is a steady, systematic searcher who brings calmness to every deployment. She’s at her best in situations that require patience and composure whether that’s checking a single bag in the middle of a busy crowd, navigating a stage filled with cables, or working through more delicate areas that demand precision. On top of her control and focus, Jane’s physical presence naturally commands respect. She carries herself with quiet authority, making her a strong asset around entry points or other high-traffic areas where steadiness and confidence matter most.

2020 - now

Jane is a beautiful Malinois and she knows it. Once an energetic wild child, she’s grown into herself over the years.

The drive and sharpness that define her breed are still there, but she’s left the impulsive teenage stage behind. Now, she brings a steadier, more thoughtful focus to her work.

She still likes things her way and doesn’t hesitate to voice her opinion if another dog invades her space. Beneath that confident exterior, though, she’s a gentle, affectionate soul.

Off duty, she loves nothing more than curling up close to her people or stretching out on her back in a pile of pillows a reminder that even the toughest workers have a soft side.

Jane’s idea of downtime is… unique. Her favourite pastime is lizard hunting — and she takes it very seriously. It’s slightly unhinged but endlessly entertaining to watch her check every bin, gutter, and hidden corner like she’s on a secret mission. She knows all the best spots. When she’s not on a reptile reconnaissance, she loves a good game of fetch and stretching her legs on a wide-open field. And if there’s a car ride involved, she insists on riding up front with her head out the window — soaking up the wind like she’s the queen of the road.

One of my favourite memories with Jane was travelling across the country, following the Ed Sheeran and Elton John tours. We drove from Port Douglas all the way down to Adelaide, seeing just about every kind of landscape and weather along the way. It was long days on the road, plenty of different stops, and a lot of time together. Another memorable day was working at Randwick Racecourse for a Salesforce event. From all the dogs on the job, Jane and I were stationed near the entry to conduct baggage searches — and for some reason, one magpie decided Jane was his personal target. He wouldn’t stop swooping at her, and it got so relentless that we ended up hiding behind the security guard until he finally lost interest.
