Odour Clarity & Control:
2-Day Training & Performance Tracking

20 Sep - 21 Sep 2025

A focused two day of detection training aimed at strengthening odour recognition testing, improving consistency, and collecting meaningful performance data across known target odours.

Delivered in a controlled environment, these training days provide the structure and support to run high volumes of clean, focused repetitions.

Training includes blank runs, distractors (interferents), and blind/double-blind setups, following best-practice protocols aligned with CPNI detection dog guidance.

We’ll also apply the data collection system developed by Simon Prins used with his full permission to document every repetition in a consistent, structured format. Learning this system was a turning point for me; it showed that proper data collection is more than a training diary it’s a tool to recognise performance patterns, identify weaknesses, and back up your dog’s capability with evidence.

Each dog’s repetitions are documented across the two days to support training plan development, track odour generalisation, and provide a clear record of performance for future review.

Suitable for:
  • Detection Handlers in law enforcement, government, or private sector
  • Trainers and Supervisors responsible for team performance
  • Professional sport detection competitors desiring to perform at a high standard
For handlers looking to:

  • Conduct odour recognition testing in a structured environment.
  • Collect and analyse data for individual dogs
  • Write informed, goal driven training plans
  • Document results and progress over time
  • Reinforce odour clarity and independent search behaviour
Event Details:

Dates: 20 Sep - 21 Sep 2025

Time: 8am - 4pm

Location: 4/19 Sunset Ave,
Barrack Heights 2528, NSW Australia

Cost: $450 (Including GST)

Learning Objectives
Target Odour Recognition
  • Establish strong target odour imprinting through consistent, clean setups
  • Reduce contamination and handler cueing through controlled procedures
  • Strengthen discrimination between target and non-target odours
Structured Trial Planning
  • Conduct line-up and scent wheel searches using single-blind, double-blind, and blank formats
  • Incorporate distractions and controlled variable to evaluate generalisation
  • Apply procedural standars including start markers, placement variation, and reset protocols
Handler Mechanics & Reinforcement Protocols
  • Refine timing, leash handling, and reinforcement strategies
  • Enhance search independence and reduce reliance on handler input
  • Observe and evaluate handler response to correct and incorrect indications
Performance Tracking & Documentation
  • Use standardised templates to record search outcomes and training data
  • Monitor false alert rates, reinforcement history, and environmental variables
  • Develop clear documation to support future training, accrediation, or operational readiness
